Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will arrive in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, for an official visit today.
According to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, the visit will take place at an invitation of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Afghan government officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the visit and said Ghani was visiting the neighbouring country at the invitation of his Uzbek counterpart.
Relations between the two countries, long-term cooperation and exchanging views on key international and regional security issues will be discussed in meetings between the two sides.
A joint statement of heads of government, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents aimed at further enhancing bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, transport and communication, scientific and education and other fields and commercial contracts are expected to be signed during Ghani’s visit.
The Afghan president is also expected to visit Bukhara, where he will meet and address students of the Bukhara State University.
