Ghani Bids Farewell to US Chargé D’affaires

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held a farewell meeting with US Embassy’s Special Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Hugo Llorens yesterday evening.
A press release from ARG (Presidential Palace) stated that the meeting was attended by Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, First Lady Rula Ghani, high-ranking government officials and a number of Kabul-based ambassadors.
The statement added that Ghani conferred the high state medal Ghazi Mir Masjidi Khan to the outgoing US ambassador in recognition and commendation of his strenuous efforts to strengthen and expand mutually intimate relations between the two countries.
President Ghani wished Llorens success in his future endeavors.
The statement further stated that Ghani said that the tireless efforts made by the ambassador ushered in the laying of a new foundation in Afghan-US relations. He said, “These efforts served an important role in different development realms particularly the new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.”
Ambassador Hugo Llorens expressed delight over his mission here. He said that he had the honour of working with President Ghani; he commended the vision and hard work of the president which is focused on economic development and re-construction of Afghanistan. He said, “Afghanistan and the United States are good partners blessed with friendly relations.”
Ambassador Hugo Llorens reassured President Ghani of continued US cooperation and assistance with Afghanistan, reaffirming that US commitments to Afghanistan are enduring.
