Local officials in Kapisa said that the Afghan forces’ coordination center caught fire in the province today.
Qais Qaderi, the governor’s spokesman, said the fire erupted due to short circuit in the dining hall of the center at around 11am.
Losses resulting from the blaze were yet to be assessed, he said, adding firefighters from Parwan province were also requested to help extinguish the fire. Firefighters from Kapisa alone could not deal with the blaze.
If the fire had not been controlled in time, it would have spread to the weapons depot. That would have led to a disaster, he concluded.
