Health officials in Nangarhar said that 13,000 children will remain unvaccinated against polio in the province due to insecurity.
Dr. Najib Kamawal, provincial health director, told reporters that 766,000 children under age of five will be vaccinated against polio but children in Haska Mina, Nazyan, and Pachiragam districts will remain unvaccinated due to insecurity.
Meanwhile Gulab Mangal, governor of Nangarhar, urged militants to allow the health teams to administer anti-polio drops to children.
Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria are the only countries where polio is still prevalent.
