Abdullah Wants UNSC Sanctions on Taliban Leader, Aides

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to impose sanctions on Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Haibatullah and other aides.
Abdullah met with UNSC’s sanctions committee head Kairat Umarov and members in Sapidar Palace yesterday.
A press release from CEO office stated that Abdullah said armed Taliban are ruthless killers of innocent Afghan people and they are responsible for the destruction of this country. They should be deemed as terrorists.
The statement added that Abdullah asked the sanctions committee to strengthen their observation and assessment mechanism to limit activities and movement of terrorists and bring their financial resources to a halt. He said this way conditions for peace would be prepared.
The statement further stated that Umarov reiterated their commitment to working and standing with the Afghan government in preventing security threats and bringing peace to the country.
According to him, they were cooperative in the fight against terrorists, especially the Taliban, and they would give priority to the Afghan government’s suggestions.
He expressed gratitude to the Afghan government for preparing needed conditions for better functioning of the committee inside the country.
