One US Soldier Killed, Six Inured in Logar Helicopter Crash

A US helicopter crashed in Logar province Friday evening killing one US crew member and injuring six others in the aircraft.
According to a statement from the NATO-led Resolute Support mission, the accident was not the result of enemy action and its circumstances are being investigated.
Gen. John Nicholson, commander of the Resolute Support mission, said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our comrade. On behalf of all of Resolute Support, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of our fallen comrade and those injured in this unfortunate event.”
Resolute Support is investigating the circumstances of the crash and will release relevant details as appropriate.
Salim Saleh, provincial governor’s spokesman, said that international and Afghan forces had arrived on Friday in Kharwar to conduct an operation.
He said the helicopter with US forces struck a tree that led to the crash.
Meanwhile Zabiullah Mujahid, a so-called Taliban spokesman, claimed the helicopter was attacked by the movement’s fighters.
He said all those on board were killed.
