TKG Shares Findings on Challenges Facing Peace Process with Afghan Government

Conference of civil society organizations on peace building was held by Development and Humanitarian Services for Afghanistan and The Killid Group (DHSA/TKG) in Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul in presence of 130 guests from Kabul, Mazar, Herat, Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces yesterday. TKG conducted 30 meetings over the period of six months in five provinces seeking prospects and views of civil society organizations on challenges facing peace and ways of tackling it.
Civil society organizations said that that shrinking of High Peace Council’s structure considering social and political peace, rule of law and assurance on equal implementation of law, and reform of legal and judicial institutions are major issues which can be effective in peace process.

Civil Society organizations want government that HPC remain as an address for peace process but gives value to women participation and youth in the process. They also called on the government to adopt tangible actions against corruption and to start digitalization of working process. Local councils must be empowered to solve local conflicts and state services must be provided equally in all secure and insecure provinces regardless of ethnic interests and relations.

The results of the findings submitted to the Afghan government was welcomed by High Peace Council (HPC). Habiba Surabi, deputy HPC, thanked The Killid Group (TKG) for the research and said, “The findings of the study are a milestone for all government departments and HPC.”

Najiba Ayubi, director general of Development and Humanitarian Services for Afghanistan (DHSA) and TKG, said, “TKG has evaluated the challenges facing peace in 30 meetings with over 40 civil society organizations in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar, and Nangarhar provinces.

Meanwhile Sayed Gulam Hussain Fakhri, director of High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption (HOOAC), said that failure to address corruption cases, lack of balance and justice in distribution of state budget, monopoly and privileges, not addressing the legal and social cases of people and ruling of powerful individuals are the main barriers facing peace process in the country.
