Taliban Warn Teachers Not To Take Salaries Through Banks

Taliban militants have asked schoolteachers in a number of provinces to pay them the taxes on salaries. Many schoolteachers in Ghazni told BBC that Taliban have informed school principals that teachers should take their salaries from trustees and confidants instead of banks and pay taxes to the group. Meanwhile Ghazni education officials confirmed that Taliban militants have asked teachers not to receive salaries through the banks but claimed they were unaware that teachers were told to pay taxes to Taliban. Taliban presence has hampered girls’ education in parts of the province. Girls said they cannot go to school due to security threats. Education officials in Maidan Wardak province confirmed that Taliban have send them letters asking teachers not to receive their salaries through the banks. Zabiullah Mujahid, a so-called Taliban spokesman, confirming the issue said that the decision was taken to avoid financial and administrative corruption in schools.
