Local officials in Jawzjan province said that Taliban and Daesh militants stopped the national polio vaccination campaign from being carried out in Qosh Tapa and Darzab districts. They said that the move prevents 25,000 children in the two districts from being immunised against polio. Dr. Faridoon Habib, provincial health director, said that the campaign was launched in the province yesterday and will be implemented in eight districts and provincial capital. Dr. Habib lamented that 25,000 children will remain deprived in Qosh Tapa and Darzab. Meanwhile Aminullah, district governor of Qosh Tapa, said that both Taliban and Daesh militants are against the implementation of the polio vaccination campaign in the district. Daesh militants are yet to comment but Zabiullah Mujahid, a so-called spokesman for Taliban, said that they will allow the campaign provided that polio workers are selected from Qosh Tapa and Darzab.
