Killid Journalist Wins Title for Courageous Reporting

Sumaya Walizada, a Killid group journalist, received Courageous Reporting Title from the Voice of America (VOA) along with another Afghan female journalist in India. Sumaya Walizada has been working as reporter and producer with TKG (The Killid Group) over the past five years in Herat. Walizada told Killid that she needs more opportunities for further journalistic works. Nargis Horkhash, another female journalist from 1TV, also received the same award. Following the Taliban’s fall from power in 2001, Afghanistan has seen a surge in media freedom and a vast expansion. There has been an increase in women’s representation in the media as well.
