Security officials in Jawzjan province reported that a military operation codenamed ‘Naweed 5’ has been launched in Aqcha district to crack down on armed anti-government groups. They said that the operation was launched to clear Aqcha district of insurgents. Earlier officials in the province complained of insecurity and presence of Daesh militants in the district. Last week, Lutfullah Azizi, provincial governor, urged the central government to launch a military operation against Daesh militants in the province.
