Finnish Citizen Kidnapped in Kabul Released

A Finnish citizen who was kidnapped in Afghanistan in May has been released today. The woman was an aid worker employed by Operation Mercy, a Swedish relief and development NGO in Kabul. During her abduction a German colleague and their Afghan guard were killed.
The incident happened one night in May when unidentified gunmen stormed the guesthouse the women had been living in in Ayoub Khan Mena, in PD7, of Kabul. Kidnapping is a longstanding problem in Afghanistan, mainly affecting Afghans abducted for ransom. However foreigners have also regularly been targeted.
