India’s Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj yesterday agreed to further deepen security ties with Afghanistan and provide more assistance to Afghan defence and security forces. During a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani in New Delhi, the two dignitaries reviewed security situation in Afghanistan. Addressing a joint press meet after co-chairing the Indo–Afghan Strategic Partnership Council with Swaraj, Rabbani said that India and Afghanistan have agreed to strengthen security cooperation. “India has further agreed to provide assistance to Afghan national defence forces,” he said. Afghanistan has long been pressing for greater Indian assistance in defence supplies and capacity building.
