For the first time ever, Afghan doctors successfully conducted microlaryngeal surgery on a girl child at the Amanullah Khan Hospital in Kabul. The National Directorate of Security (NDS) that runs the hospital in a statement said the operation was carried out upon Saida, an 8-year-girl, who suffered from shortness of breath, wheezing and choking. The girl was transferred to Kabul from Badakhshan province about six months back and was admitted to the ENT (ear, nose and throat) ward of the Amanullah Khan Hospital. A statement from the hospital stated that the surgeon team spearheaded by Dr. Abdul Malik Ghiyasi after diagnosis of ‘Video laryngoscopy’ conducted the microlaryngeal surgery successfully. The statement further stated that the health condition of the patient was good and all symptoms of her illness had been cured. The NDS statement said the patient had earlier visited many hospitals inside and outside of the country, but in vain.
