Pakistan and the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have jointly launched a registration campaign for Afghan refugees. Twenty-one centres have been established across the country. Talking to French newspaper APP on Sunday, Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Dr. Imran Zaib Khan said that the campaign was launched on August 20 and so far over 20,000 Afghan refugees have been registered. He said that the main purpose of the campaign was to facilitate Afghan refugees with Proof of Registration (PoR) cards after Eid-ul Azha. According to Pakistani media, Imran Zaib added that Pakistan takes various steps for the welfare of Afghan refugees including education and health sector. He further stated that the government was providing skill training programmes, scholarships to different universities of the country, besides granting admission in the medical and engineering fields.
