Local officials in Herat reported that 269 Taleban insurgents were either killed or injured over the past 30 days in the province. Jailani Farhad, spokesman for Herat governor, said that at least 193 Taleban insurgents were killed and 69 injured in clearing operations launched by Afghan security forces in disturbed districts. Farhad added that 10 Afghan security members were either killed or injured in the operations. Farhad further stated that Taleban insurgents wanted to overrun Shendad district’s centre but were crushed by Afghan security forces.
