At least 40 Taleban insurgents were killed in joint airstrikes conducted by Afghan and foreign forces in Helmand. Security officials in Helmand said that the strikes targeted a Taleban base in Jorezan area of Nawa district. Abdul Salam Afghan, spokesman for Helmand police, said that the insurgents had gathered to carry out a coordinated attack on the centre of Nawa district. He added that the strikes were conducted on Monday night. Afghan further stated that two prominent Taleban commanders were also killed and 13 injured. Taleban militants are yet to comment on the statement.
