NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Ambassador Cornelius Zimmermann strongly condemned the suicide attack by the Daesh militant group on the embassy of Iraq in Kabul that left two Afghan civilians dead. “I strongly condemn the attack against the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kabul today. Attacks against diplomatic facilities and staff are against the principles of international law,” he said. He offered “heartfelt sympathies to all those affected”, and extended “solidarity to the entire team of the Iraqi Embassy in these difficult moments”. He commended the Afghan security forces for their swift and decisive action in repelling the attack. The Daesh attack on the Iraqi embassy was only a week after a Taleban suicide bomber detonated an explosive laden vehicle in the western part of Kabul killing at least 36 civilians and wounding over 40 others including women and children.
