88 Schools Still Remain Closed in Helmand

Officials of education department in Helmand said that of 403 schools across the province, 88 remain closed due to insecurity. Qudratullah Yaqubi, head of provincial education department, told Killid that they have recently reopened 51 schools. He added that earlier 139 schools were closed and they reopened 88 schools through mediation of tribal elders and religious scholars. Officials in provincial education department asserted that residents have shown keen interest for education and we hope that the rest of the schools reopen soon in the province. According to the figures from the provincial education department, 210,000 students are enrolled at 315 schools in the province.
