Afghan National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar has continued talks with Kazakhstani officials on peace, stability and economic development. A press release from National Security Council (NSC) stated that Atmar met Kazakhstan National Security Council Secretary Vladimir Zhumakanov. The statement added that Zhumakanov assured Atmar that Afghanistan has a special place in his country’s foreign policy and added that peace in Afghanistan is crucial for the region. The statement added that Zhumakanov said drugs, organised crimes and sectarianism were major causes of increasing terrorism in the region. Kazakhstan, which recently gained non-permanent membership of the UNSC, assured Atmar of its support for peace and stability in Afghanistan at the council’s meetings. According to NSC statement, Atmar said that terrorist groups earned money from drug trade in the region and use the money for buying weapons and ammunition.
