Taleban high council under leadership of Mullah Rasoul condemned Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s remarks on Afghanistan’s dam projects. A press release from Abdul Rahman Niaze, spokesman for the Taleban high council under Mullah Rasoul leadership, stated that Rouhani’s remarks on Afghanistan’s dam projects are irresponsible and the group strongly condemn the remarks.
The dissident Taleban offshoot, led by Mullah Rasoul, said that such remarks indicate enmity of Iran toward Afghanistan and is against the independence of the country. “Afghanistan is an independent country and its water are Afghan’s property,” the statement reads. This comes after the Iranian president criticised Afghanistan’s dam project at a conference on sandstorms in Tehran last week. Rouhani said, “We cannot remain silent about the thing which is apparently damaging our environment. Establishment of several dams in Afghanistan such as Kajaki, Kamal Khan and Salma in the north and south of Afghanistan,” said Rouhani. He added that the dam projects in Afghanistan ‘threatens a number of bordering provinces in Iran’.
