A key panel of US Senate on Thursday asked Pentagon to identify larger role for India in Afghanistan so that New Delhi could provide increased and coordinated defence-related support to the war-torn country. US Senator Dan Sullivan moved a resolution in this regard which was unanimously passed by the Senate Armed Services Committee. “This provision encourages the Department of Defence to identify ways that India can play a larger role in providing increased and coordinated defence-related support to Afghanistan, a critical part of overcoming the current “stalemate” in the fight against the Taleban,” said a statement issued by office of Senator Sullivan. India is the largest regional contributor to Afghan reconstruction, pledging at least two billion USD toward that effort since 2001.
