Afghanistan Optimistic of NATO’s Meeting Outcome

Afghan government is satisfied of the NATO ministers’ meeting in Brussels. Tariq Shah Bahrami, acting Afghan defence minister, at the end of meeting told reporters, “Afghan government’s plan was accepted politically and militarily by the NATO members.” According to Hamid Kohistani, Killid reporter from Brussels, exerting pressures on Pakistan was one of Afghanistan’s demands in the meeting. Meanwhile NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that it is absolutely unacceptable providing sanctuaries to terrorist groups which are responsible for attacks by neighbouring countries in Afghanistan. Stoltenberg said that NATO will remain in Afghanistan and NATO members are committed sending more troops to Afghanistan. He also reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to funding Afghan forces until at least 2020. According to Bahrami, NATO reaffirmed its commitment to Afghanistan it three areas until at least 2020 which are strengthening Afghan special operation forces, supporting the development of Afghan air force, and education of the officers.
