Afghanistan on Agenda as NATO Meeting Begins Today

The run-up to meetings of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) at the level of Defence Ministers will be held at NATO Headquarters today in presence of Afghanistan. The two days of meetings would cover NATO priority areas such as collective defence, and stability to Afghanistan. Officials at Afghan Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that exerting more pressure on Pakistan and severe measures for fighting terrorist groups in Pakistan would be Afghanistan’s main demand in the meeting. Gen. Mohammad Radmanish, spokesman for MoD, said that the countries helping Afghanistan should not distinguish between good and bad terrorist and should help Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF). Tariq Shah Bahrami, acting Afghan defence minister, heading a high-level delegation left to Brussels yesterday to attend the meeting. Meanwhile Hamid Kohistani, Killid reporter who has attended the meeting in Brussels, said that today is the run-up to the conference and the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. He added that he will share details of the meeting with Afghan people as soon as the meeting begins. The United States has about 8,400 troops in Afghanistan and another 5,000 are from its NATO allies.
