Shamim Katawazi has been appointed as new governor of Paktia province. A press release from Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) stated that the appointment was in compliance to presidential orders. Earlier, he worked as presidential advisor in youth affairs. Meanwhile a number of provinces including Nuristan and Takhar are headless and are governed by acting governors.
