Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. Indian media reported that both leaders discussed the security and political situation of Afghanistan and the region. Both sides discussed ways of establishing peace and starting negotiation with armed anti-government groups. Modi condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul and reiterated that India stands with Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. It is reported that India, along with Pakistan, was granted full membership of the SCO, the influential Eurasian political, economic and military bloc that also includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
