Amnesty International condemned the Afghan security forces’ actions against protesters in Kabul, seeking an investigation into the shooting that killed several people. A press release from Amnesty International stated that use of excessive and fatal force on protesters voicing anger over one of Afghanistan’s deadliest attacks ever illustrates the authorities’ contempt for the lives of ordinary people. Meanwhile the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also expressed deep concerned over loss of civilian lives in yesterday’s protest. “The genuine anger expressed by the protesters, many of whom suffered the loss of family and friends, is fully understandable,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. “But this tragic week has already added too much civilian suffering to Afghanistan, and further violence will not solve any problems.”
