Logar Women’s Affairs Department announced that the level of violence against women have increased in the province. Shima Zargar, head of Logar Women’s Affairs Department, said that some 40 cases of violence against women were registered in the province in 1394 solar year but the figure jumped to 65 cases last year. She added that beating women, sexually assaulting women, not allowing them to pursue education, work in the office, and other forms of problems were the challenges women faced in the province. Zargar further stated that the level of violence against women could be lowered by creating public awareness programmes and asserted that campaigns were underway in this regard. Meanwhile Salim Saleh, spokesman for Logar governor, also confirmed that violence against women have increased in the province. He added that illiteracy, old traditions, and unawareness about women’s rights contributed to the increase in the level of violence against women. According to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, more than 5,000 cases of violence against women were registered last year across the country, showing a significant increase compared to previous years.
