Thousands of Bamyan Women Attend Literacy Courses

Officials at Ministry of Education (MoE) said that more than 15,000 people, most of whom are women, have enrolled for literacy courses this solar year in Bamyan province. Sardar Mohammad Rahimi, deputy head of literacy at MoE, said that the nine-month literacy courses were conducted in six districts of Bamyan. He added that the scheme was being implemented by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). He further stated that some 10,500 would attend 350 literacy courses. The total number of people receiving literacy courses reaches 15,000. According to Rahimi, participants of the courses were aged above 15 years and most of them were women, adding that the ministry considering the budget had launched the literacy courses in 120 districts across the country. Rahimi said that the individuals completing the courses could continue their education at literacy schools as third graders.
