Aziz, Zakhilwal Discuss Border Tensions

Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Tuesday that Chaman border will not be opened until Afghan government addresses Pakistan’s fears it is being used by Pakistan-based anti-government fighters to enter the country. Pakistani media reported that Aziz met with Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal at the foreign office in Islamabad on Tuesday. During the meeting, issues that have heightened tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan were discussed in detail. The Tribune reported that the adviser called for addressing all kind of “reservations” between the two countries. Zakhilwal told Aziz that his country has continuously conveyed its genuine desire for resolving its issues through constructive talks, engagement and improved neighbourly relations.
