Ministry of Public Health announced that a new polio campaign will begin today. A press release from Ministry of Public Health stated that the campaign will immunise 6.8 million children under the age of five in 27 provinces including Kabul. The statement added that Health Minister Firozuddin Firoz said that the latest recorded case of polio was of a 4-month-old girl who died in Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz. The minister further stated that over 52,000 polio workers will go from house to house in their communities to vaccinate children. Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria are the only countries where polio is still prevalent.
