Russia’s ambassador to Afghanistan said that a number of high-ranking Afghan officials blame Russia for supporting and backing Taleban which is baseless. A press release from Russian embassy in Kabul stated that no Afghan officials have tangible documents and proofs that Moscow is supporting Taleban. The statement added that some Members of Parliament (MPs) and media accuse Russia for supporting Taleban and ask Russia to desist supporting the group. The statement also named a number of MPs and government officials who accuse Russia for supporting Taleban. Pointing to US, the statement further stated that Washington does not have even an image or video to prove the claim. Earlier Afghan officials accused Russia for supporting Taleban but Russia said that its limited contact with Taleban was aimed at bringing them to the negotiating table.
