The Pentagon said that a prominent al-Qaeda leader was killed in southeast of Afghanistan. A press release from Pentagon stated that Qari Yasin, a top al-Qaeda leader, was killed in a drone strike on March 19 in Paktika. The Pentagon said that Qari Yasin had ties to Tahrik-e- Taleban and had plotted several terror attacks. US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said that the death of Qari Yasin is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice. The Pentagon added that Qari Yasin had ties with Taleban and plotted bombing on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad that killed dozens of people.
