President Ashraf Ghani warned that government officials would not be allowed to interfere in the election process. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Assembly, President Ghani said that he has no intention of interfering in the election. He urged the Assembly to restore people’s confidence in the poll process by strongly preventing any interference by government officials including governors, police chiefs, heads of intelligence departments and other officials. President Ghani stressed there was political will and national consensus for the holding of elections, and asserted that presidential elections will be held without any delay when it is due. Meanwhile Abdul Rawof Ibrahimi, speaker of Parliament, urged President Ghani to hold fair and transparent parliamentary elections next solar year. He added that any further delay in holding elections will undermine public confidence in the government.
