Security officials in Helmand said that 56 Taleban militants including eight prominent commanders were killed and three others injured in a US drone strike in Sangen and Bughran districts in the past 48 hours. Colonel Mohammad Rasoul Zazai, spokesman for 215 Maiwand Corps, said that the operations were launched in parts of Sangen and Bughran districts. He rejected the allegations that foreign troops had targeted civilians in parts of the district. He added that the 215 Maiwand Corps’ fact finding delegation states that no casualties were inflicted to the civilians in Sangen district. Earlier Taleban militants had launched coordinated attacks on police checkpoints in Sangen district, which was repulsed by Afghan security forces. Taleban militants are yet to comment on the attack.
