Dear countrymen and lovers of program of Campaign for Change of Life! Greeting to you I hope that the useful information that you have received through this program has brought positive changes in your characters, having this wish we would like to start our discussion on the importance of children’s education, our guests in this roundtable are: Mrs.Najiya Babakarkhil Orgoonwal the secretary of Education, Higher Educations and Cultural Affairs Commission of Parliament, Mr.Sayeed Zabuli the journalist and writer and Afifa Maroof the officer in Children Rights department of Afghanistan Human Rights Independent Commission, first I would like to welcome them and thank them for their participation, first I would like to ask Mr.Zabuli :
Question: Mr.Zabuli! How do you see the educational situation of children in remote areas comparing to the situation of children in the center?
Answer: There is much difference between the center and remote areas as there is much public awareness in the center, the people know about the importance and value of education, the people are being encouraged to send their children to schools when they see each other but in remote areas the case is different, there is insecurity, the schools are burned, the villages are scattered if the school is next to one villages it is far from the other village, there are not radios and TVs for public awareness, the people are menaced by armed opponents for getting the education so how a family would dare to send their children to schools, so this would be good and interest of people would be increased with the education if the Mullahs give awareness about importance of education or the government establish educational centers inside the villages.
Answer: Orgoonwal, I also want to express my view about, you mentioned the problems of remote areas but we can see that schools don’t exist even in Kabul as the children are taught in open area, the children cannot receive the books on time, and the government of Pakistan has also blocked the transportation of our school books within convoys of NATO convoys, our children don’t have school books since four and half months, if we look at to the schools inside the Kabul city where the security exists the schools are not equipped by laboratories and they don’t have enough books, this is a big problem I hope attention be paid to this problem soon.
Question: Mrs.Maroof! What is the importance of education of children?
Answer: The education is beneficial to life of every human being, this is the education that the human being get other prosperities, the development of every country is depended on education even the peace also can be gotten through education.
Question: Mrs.Zabuli! As Mrs.Orgoonwal told that the schools don’t have proper situation even in Kabul as the schools don’t have books and the people request the construction of schools so what problems would cause the lack of schools and requests of people?
Answer: I think they are not problems rather they are menaces in the community, when the people want the schools in their villages they should share the issue with the local authorities, mullahs, tribal leaders and then they should go to department of education the department of education would help in construction the school, if the government doesn’t construct the school based the request of people the mottos of the government would have no meaning which says that the government is obliged to give women rights and the government is obliged to prepare ground of education for all the people, in such a condition the government would lose its trust, if the people see themselves responsible against their problems and share their problems with related authorities the authorities would find solutions ways and would solve their problems.
Question: Mrs.Maroof! The children are beaten in some of the schools is not this trampling upon their rights?
Answer: In no place of the world the students are beaten, the minister of education has sent the letters to all schools not to beat the students but in spite the mentioned order it is seen that the teachers not only beat the students rather they compel the students to do onerous works with the teachers on farms for example the teachers take the students and make them to help them and promise them to give high marks by this the students become happy and do the works that are higher than their ability.
Question: Mrs.Orgoonwal! What should be done in schools to eliminate the problems?
Answer: I think it will be good if the ministry of education gives awareness on psychology to teachers specifically to teachers of primary schools that the teachers can teach in proper way because the lesson can be gotten when teachers teach considering the psychological situation of the children, though there is literacy learning project in the ministry of education but has not progressed well and has not had a good result, when you speak about education problems with authorities in ministry of education they also complain about the problems but no one is trying to seek solution ways so the problems must be followed and investigated and solution ways must be found otherwise the problems would be increased.
Question: What are the problems for girls in education’s field?
Answer: Many of women and girls are illiterate because they don’t benefit the Islamic guidance rather they follow the indecent customs which has caused that the family don’t let their daughters to attend the schools and sit at house so when a girl or woman doesn’t study it is clear that problems would be created in the community because 49 % of population in our country are women.
Answer: Though some of the girls kept deprived from education but there are not ground for them to work as well, I remember once I went to ministry of education I saw many of girls that had graduated from different universities of the provinces standing in front of Recruitment Department of ministry, they wanted to be employed as teachers but they could not get job as teachers because there were vague criteria set by ministry that they must had despite the fact that there is great need for female teachers in the schools.
Question: How we can repel the obstacles of education of children?
Answer: Mrs.Orgoonwal: I want to say in very brief words that the teachers must use their mercy to their students and teach their students kindly and lovely, before this public awareness must be given to teachers on their behavior against their students, creation of balanced education is another way to consider namely it should not happen that one school and one teacher is heeded more than other school and teacher, so if the mentioned points are heeded the obstacle against the education of students would be repelled and their problems would be solved.
Answer: Mr.Zabuli: I also want to insist on giving the public awareness, we have seen many times that the dignitaries and tribal leaders have come from remote areas to center for solving their problems but nobody has paid attention to them so if the government know the problems of the people and solve them this would help the repelling the obstacles and solving the problems.
Answer: Mrs.Afifa: As you know the job of a teacher is a sacred job, every one cannot be a teacher, so I think it will be good if the government pay attention to economic situation of the teachers and raise their salaries for their economic problems and pay more attention to quality than quantity, because we hear every year from ministry of education that so many girls and boy were graduated, graduation of many students would not be beneficial for us the quality of the education is the main need so if the ministry pay attention to these points the obstacles on the way of education would be repelled.
