In the name of merciful God, dear countrymen I would like to draw your attention to a radio debate through program of Campaign for Change of Life, the subject of debate is the Physical and psychological violence against women and contribution of civil societies for its elimination, the guests in the debate are Mrs.Liya Jawad from Solidarity for Justice Organization, Hares Bahman Takween the head of Takween Consulting and Legal Office, Jawed Sadat from Women Research Foundation and Mrs. Sonia Aslami the in charge of Events’ Investigation Department in Afghan Women Organization.
Dear friends! As you know the women are the most injured category of the community as they have been faced always with physical, verbal and psychological violence so to launch more awareness about we would like to start our debate, first I would like ask Mrs. Jawad:
Question: What is violence against the women?
Answer: Thanks I should say that violence is non-Islamic phenomenon that takes place against the women.
Question: Mrs. Aslami what type of violence has been registered in your office?
Answer: To reply your question I should say that beside the physical, family and psychological violence the sexual aggression on women, chastity murders and beating of women has also been registered as a result we have sent the families that faced with psychological violence to psychological treatment centers to be assisted.
Question: It has been seen in many cases that neither the women inform others about the violence that takes place against them nor their events are registered so what do think is the unawareness is a separate issue?
Answer: Mostly the women don’t inform others from psychological violence but they inform the related organs soon regarding the physical violence that takes place against them as this type of violence is visible for them.
Question: Mr. Sadat! What do you think is there any relation between physical and psychological violence?
Answer: Now it is common in the world that don’t respect the women, this situation has caused that no attention take place to some of the violence though there are relations among the violence and they are not separated for example most of the people are unaware of psychological violence and don’t heed about, on the other hand some of the extremist Mullahs abuse the legal and religious guidance due to indecent customs.
Question: You told that the violence is an international phenomenon but it is not existent in other countries if there is it is not so much?
Answer: My idea is based on some of the researches of researchers who have gotten result that the violence is now a custom.
Question: Mr. Takween how do you assess the role/contribution of the civil societies against the psychological and physical violence?
Answer: Thanks, when we discuss the issue of women’s rights the issue is being considered as a new issue but the fact is that the violence against the women is not a new issue, on the other hand when the rights of others are being wasted we think that others are working the get their rights but in Afghanistan the people don’t respect the democracy and women’s rights.
No reforming change has occurred in the field of violence against the women, no fundamental activity has been accomplished for political support and situation of the women, the activities of civil societies are also sectional so they are not effective enough because they are not working regularly even sometimes their works are against each other, if they work regularly and continuously they would be effective in the way of awareness regarding the violence against the women and women’s rights
Question: Mrs. Jawad! It is said that the violence has increased than past the causes are raising the level of public awareness in this regard and increment the number of media, so what is your idea about?
Answer: I should say that our doctors have interviewed with injured women by violence, it was found that they have faced with psychological violence beside the physical violence so the doctors give them the consultations but beside the increment of media and public awareness the increment of population also has caused the violence events.
Question: What would be the results of violence against women and terrorizing of the women on their future?
Answer: Though these problems would have indecent effects on public women but the mentioned problems would not create obstacles against us and other women that are working for defense of women’s rights, also we are not so weak that their actions cause the backwardness of our activities.
Question: You may be aware that some of active women have been killed by unknown armed people recently, will this create obstacles in the way of defense of women rights, and will these murders increase or decrease the problems so I would like to get the views of debate’s participants?
Answer: My name is Sohaila Waziri reporter of Active Young Union; I think we are continuing our activities despite having so many problems in man-lord community so the murders of women and girls, their abductions and violence against them would not affect our activities rather the mentioned events will encourage them to counter seriously for their rights.
Answer: I am Husai a student in in faculty of journalist and a reporter, the murder of active women would have positive and negative effects, the negative effect is that the people would become sad, but the positive affect would be this that the events would encourage to increase their activities and counters which will decrease the problems of women.
Question: Mr. Takween, this year would be named the “peace from home to world”, the motto has insisted on the counter in the way of peace durability, will this motto be implemented?
Answer: I think whenever a motto comes into existence if it is not put in practice it will be remained as a motto without result, if we want to put the motto in practice we need to have coordination and united, all the people including children, elders, literate and illiterate should counter for peace.
In fact the peace is an useful phenomenon needed by very one, as the elimination of violence against the women is the subject of the discussion so first the peace must be ensured in the country then we would be able to counter against the violence against the women and lack of access to women rights and it causes.
The men are powerful in all fields of the community and no authority is given to women, if you see a family, first the man speak and his idea can be acceptable, the men have contribution political and social affairs and no attention is paid to women’s problems so when the women have contribution in economic, social, family, political and other fields the violence against the women would be eliminated and peace would be ensured in the country.
Question: Mr. Jawed! How do you assess the issue of public awareness regarding the women’s rights, will the women have the ability to know what to do when they face the violence?
Answer: I think the civil societies must follow three ways to solve the problem of violence against the women, first they should have effective and long term plans, secondly they should put pressure on governmental organs and lead them to solve the problems, thirdly the technical part on National Assembly which has responsibility to compile the law must pay serious attention to women’s problems and insert whatever is proper solution way of women problems, these all will be effective to eradicate the violence against the women.
Regarding the role of public awareness I can say that public awareness is very effective in human community, due to this a movement was found in 19th century that has activity for women, so we can say that if someone doesn’t want to get its right no one will give its right.
Question: Mr. Jawad! At the end I want to know what have done the civil societies for implementation of the laws.
Answer: The civil societies are trying that the law implementation must be accelerated, our request from governmental organs to take effective steps for law implementation, till the women are not given the opportunity to participate in all affairs the lowering of the level violence against the women or the eradication of violence against women would not be easy.
