(Street environment – sound of fall wind and movement of leave and branches of the tree)

Shukria: (While walking) hey Lailulma sister… loot at this wind… it is good that we came out earlier from the mourning ceremony… now it may rain… let’s go faster not to be stuck in rain…

Lailuma: (While walking) yes… winter has approached… from the appearance it may rain… Shukria Jan I was going to tell you something but forgot…

Shukria: (While walking) tell me… what were you telling… is everything ok?

Lailuma: (Joyfully) some days back there was an announcement from the mosque… it was saying that an literacy learning course will establish here… it was saying that whoever is keen can come and admit here… I really want to take admission over there… but I am alone…

Shukira: (Laughing) are you telling the truth or you are joking Lailuma Jan?… what will you do with the literacy course in this age of life… you are so credulous… I can only do my home activities… other than I don’t have the patience to go and come and also do the exercises.

Lailuma: (With joy) but I am too keen… it is ok… if you are not going… but for sure that I will take admission over there… my children are too young… I learn that much which would be fruitful for them during their school studies…

Shukria: (Laughing) you are saying the truth… if you can… then go… have a strong plan to learn….

Lailuma: (With hurry) I reached home… aren’t you going with me Shukria Jan… come home….when the wind stopped then go home… your tiredness will also be over…

Shukira: (Door opening sound) hope you be ok sister… go… say my greetings to everyone… good bye…

Shukria: (Wondering) oh… it is raining… I reached home at good time… I didn’t stick in the rain… see how fast it is raining… it is almost winter… we need to slowly install the heaters…

Zakia: It is the timetable of our exams… the teacher has asked as to get the signature of your mother so that she aware of the exame…

Shukira: (Impatiently) Daughter… I don’t have any signature… let your father comes at night then he will do it thumbed.

Zakia: (With anxiety) I don’t want thumb… why don’t you and my father have the signatures… all my classmates are bringing it with the signatures… I ashamed to carry it with thumb…

Shukria: (Unhappily) daughter; you are too much talking… it is enough… instead of this… try to study…

Zakia: Tomorrow or the day after we have the dictation… the teacher told us that to ask your mothers to dictate you from the last 4 lessons… will you dictate for me?

Shukria: (Laughing) are you joking with me?… I can’t read…I would able to read then I would dictate you before…go and write it yourself…

Zakia: (Sadly) mummy… why you are illiterate?… the mothers of all my classmates are educated… one’s mother is nurse… the other’s is an employee… the other’s has studied up to class eighth. The fact is that they all are able to dictate… they are helping them in studies… but only me…

Shukria: (Deeply breathe) Zakia daughter… at the time when I was trying to learn my father didn’t let me… I was too young that got married… after that I stuck with children and problems of life… it was not possible and now it is also too late… for God’s sake leave me…

Shukria: (Happily) come Zakia’s father… have your tea hot… so that you feel warm… today the weather is very cold…

Father of Z: (With anxiety) hope you be fine… where is Zakia… she is not looking… I think she might be sleeping…

Shukria: (Sadly) she is not asleep… she is sad… she is telling me that why can’t you sign… why are you not dictating me… she made me crazy…

Father of Z: (Laughing) she is right… if you were literate then you would have not lost the counting of the money… it is also not good… she may feel cheap in front of her classmates… on that day there was an announcement in the mosque… there is always literacy courses for you women… why you are not going…

Shukria: (Wondering) are you telling the truth or joking? It means that you are telling me to go and study over there…

Father of Z: Yes! Why not… now the kids are grown up… the home activities are also not too much… go and study… you will learn something and meanwhile enjoy… then you can also help Zakia…

Shukria: (With Joy) you are right man… you know today I was away with Lailuma for a mourning ceremony… she was also telling me that she wishes to go to the literacy course… she also told me to come… but I told her that I don’t have the patience to go… but now I think it is goo d to go… at least I will learn the counting of money…

Father of Z: (Calling) Zakia… Zakia daughter… come and see that your mother is going to the literacy course from tomorrow…

Zakia: (With Joy) It is really good… finally my mummy will also be educated…

Shukria: Your mother has recalled her young life in the old life time…

Zakia: The prophet (PBUH) said, “Lear from Cradle to Grave”.

Message of Drama: If the women are of any age and in any conditions they can join the literacy courses to get knowledge, by encouraging women to study we can have knowledgeable mothers
