Our roundtable is about the elements of disability and our guests are: Dr Zabihullah Royean the in charge of insertion of people with disability in CAF and Baran organizations and Munirudin Burhani the administrative manager in ABRAR charity, we would like to welcome them
Question: Mr.Dr. Royean give us some information about the disability?
Answer: First of all greeting to you and dear and your audience, a medical definition for disability is: disability is biological, physical and wisdom failure based on the illnesses that which cause the failure in the accomplishment of the duties, the social definition for the disability is: the result of the oppositeness/encounter of a person with bodily, biological and psychological failures with the environment and banning takings of the community is called the disability.
Question: Mr. Burhani can you tell that which elements cause the disability of people?
Answer: Greeting to you and your audience, to reply your question I should says that there two types of the elements which cause the disability to the children, the first natural elements, second unnatural elements, there is a medical classification of elements of the disability as well there are three types of elements including t genetic elements, biologic elements and physical elements (war, accident …). The natural elements are earthquakes, strong torment, cold weather… .
A medical element called polio is another element which cause the disability if be propagated in the community it will damage many people in the community.
There are also a group of paralyses as well which causes the disability of the people they happen due to injection as well. High pressure of the during delivery and the mal nutrition during pregnancy are also the elements of the disabilities.
Question: Could you name some of the natural and unnatural elements?
Answer: The natural elements are earthquakes, storms, floods and unnatural elements are accidents, usage cutting and burning instruments accomplished by humans.
Question: Mr. Dr. Royean could you give some information about the medical elements?
Answer: There are three main medical elements which cause the disability which are genetic factors, biologic factors and physical factors which includes the war as well.
The increment of the population, oldness, diabetes, cancers, cuttings and accidents in work place and maternity malformations are the other elements for the disability.
Marriage in low ages and marriages with next relatives are the elements of the disability genetically and medically.
The cares in the pregnancy terms are also necessary for the mothers because we don’t have proper services in this field in the centers as well as in the provinces which causes the disability to the child during delivery.
The environmental issue is also important in Afghanistan as the environment is full of dust, dirt, winds which causes gradually the disability so the government should provide a neat environment.
Some of the women marry in low ages which causes that the mothers cannot take care of the children and the children face with malnutrition which cause the disability so malnutrition is also one of the elements for the disability.
Question: Mr. Royean you mentioned the increment of the population as the element of the disability can you give some more details in this regard?
Answer: Afghanistan is not a country where the population is increasing also the increment of the population will not considerably cause the disability, but in some of the countries with large population the governments cannot provide the required services for their subjects specially for the children which cause the disability for the people.
Vaccination of the children against polio is also an issue, though ministry of the public health has solved the problem in the center but still the problem exists in the provinces due to security concerns.
Question: Do the natural elements have role in the disability of the children or unnatural elements?
Answer: Natural elements are less than unnatural elements because Afghanistan is mountainous country and away from oceans. Unfortunately unnatural elements are in abundance such as wars, underground mines.
Question: Is it possible a person or child affected with disability get heal immediately if treatment starts soon?
Answer: There are two types of disabilities, first the disabilities which have treatment, and the other type is the disability without treatment. The disabilities which have treatment are genetic or heritance disabilities such as lip crack, tongue crack which can be treated through going to doctor but there are some disabilities due to mental failure that cannot be healed.
Question: Mr. Burhani how we can give strength to the disabled?
Answer: First we should have preventative clinics namely we should prevent the event before it happens; when we see a person gets disability we should take him/her as soon as possible to the health centers. Giving consults to the people who have elementary illness to start the treatment. You may have seen that most of the disabled are very secluded so they should be keeping aware that they should participate in different fields. Establishment of recreation parks is useful for the improvement of their life.
Question: Mr. Rubeen what factors more causes the disability of people?
War and its effects is the first factor cause disability in our country, second family economical problems including malnutrition improper nutrition of mothers in pregnancy time and after pregnancy, taking medicine without doctor’s prescription, marriage below essential age, polluted weather, marriage with close relatives, cancers heart’s illness and ETC. .
Question: Mr. Doctor you mentioned the marriage with close relatives as of the one factor of disability in children would you give some more details about this?
Answer: Generally closed marriages don’t cause the born of disabled children but many possibilities have been seen in the births related to this type of marriages, all of them are related to chromosomes and genetic issues.
Question: Which relations cause much this problem?
Answer: The closer relations such as boy with his uncle daughter or girl with her uncle son, but by opinion as much as the marriage with take place with unrelated people the possibility of disability of the children decreases.
Question: Mr. Burhani, What works should be done to eliminate the elements of the disability?
Answer: As I said about the elements, the prevention of these elements is also specified namely stopping the war ; elimination the unexploded materials and mines ; consultation on genetic issues to the families; launching children vaccination programs throughout the country; proper nutrition to mothers in pregnancy term, delivery and birth of the children in hospitals; strict attention during construction of houses and bridges ; caution during driving; awareness about natural incidents; awareness about treatment of illness and other instances that can help in th elimination of the elements of the disability.
Question: Mr. Rubeen, which factors threaten more our society to disability and have these elements decreased or not?
Answer: we discussed about the elements that cause disability, in past there were many wars and children’s paralysis which had caused disability, though the wars have decreased but medical disabilities due to mind bleeding, diabetes and genetic issue have increased.
Question: Which ways should be used to illustrate the mind of community to know about the elements of the disability?
Answer: Giving the awareness through media specifically by radios is one of the effective ways to inform the people about as the people have more access to radios in the province as well. The publishing of dramas and recreation programs also can be effective in this regard.
Question: Mr. Rubeen how family members can help with a person who has disability signs?
Answer: first I should say that prevention is better than treatment but in case of appearance of disability in people first it should be found that what is the disability? Is there any treatment for or not? The family should take them to the hospital for treatment..
Question: Mr. Burhani in your opinion how should be the behavior of society with people with disability?
Answer: First of all society is an Islamic society and Allah dose not let its salves to mock others this is the duty of every Muslim to uses good words against disabled in order they don’t feel singled out from the community and not be disappointed.
