BAMYAN (The Killid) – Bamyani officials of department of Women’s Affairs have expressed concerns over increasing number of home escapers, adding that over the past two years, more than 50 similar cases with intensions for marriage have been registered.

Aziza Ahmadi, Head of the Women’s Affairs department in Bamyan, told The Killid, “only in last three months, 32 cases of violence against women have been registered, of which 13 cases were of home escape.”

According to Ahmadi, unfavorable practice during weddings, heavy dowries, disregarding women’s expectations and needs, mandatory arrangements by parents are some of the main factors contribute to home escape, where young men and women tend to find a safe haven out of their own home.

During the current year, 32 cases, and last year 114 cases of violence against women are registered at the department, of which 40 cases are of home escape.
