The policeman was assassinated in Deh Araban as armed men attacked around 7:30 Wednesday morning, the provincial police said.
The source said the incident was under police investigation.
No individual or armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Targeted attacks, often unclaimed, have seen a rapid increase in Afghanistan.
The attacks have prompted people’s outcry who accuse government of failing to protect its citizens.
