According to provincial governor Zahir Faiz Zada, government forces have evacuated the district to prevent civilian casualties.
Armed Taliban last night stormed police headquarters of Shahrak district, blowing up a car rigged with explosives.
At least nine army soldiers were killed and six were missing after the explosion.
Taliban officials have also confirmed capture of the district.
Afghan Ministry of Defense has yet to comment.
The last remaining American and NATO troops began withdrawing from Afghanistan May 1.
The pullout has seen a sharp increase in Afghan fighting.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced the drawdown plan on April to end his country’s “forever war.”
