According to an army spokesman, Abdul Hadi Nazari, Afghan army forces on Sunday night rescued five military personnel held in a Taliban prison in Qosh Tapa village of the provincial capital.
Two soldiers of the army, two policemen and a member of pro-government public uprising forces were released, Mr. Nazari said.
At least 12 Taliban were killed during the overnight operation.
Seven suspects were also arrested during the operation, the spokesman added.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
