The car railway guards were traveling in struck a roadside bomb Saturday evening, said provincial governor Wahid Qitali.
Six guards were killed and two others wounded in the explosion, he said.
Afghanistan’s National Railway Authority in a statement called the attack against national and Islamic values, crime against humanity and enmity against country’s progress and development.
This is not the first time Herat-Khaaf railway guards are targeted.
The Herat-Khaaf railway is a 225km-long cross-border railway between Iran and Afghanistan, linking eastern Iran to western Afghanistan.
