The U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan reiterated his country’s support for Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANDSF), development assistance, and peace in Afghanistan, it said.
“The two sides affirmed their commitment to continuing security and counterterrorism cooperation,” the office of National Security Council took to Twitter. “NSA Sullivan reiterated American support for ANDSF, development assistance, and peace in Afghanistan.”
Violence has meanwhile ramped up in the country as foreign forces have begun withdrawing from Afghanistan.
According to a British newspaper, The Sun, hundreds of foreign troops will stay on in Afghanistan under U.S. plans to stop the Taliban capturing capital Kabul.
America wants a Turkish garrison to secure the city’s airport and 600 U.S. marines could be deployed to protect the U.S. embassy, it said.
