Both discussed peace efforts, bilateral ties between the two countries and continued support of the Oceanian country to Afghanistan, according to a statement by head of Afghan reconciliation council, Abdullah Abdullah’s office.
Australia’s support for the Afghan peace process was also among those discussed between the two countries’ senior officials.
According to the statement, the Australian Ambassador assured Abdullah of his country’s continued support to Afghanistan in the new chapter of Afghanistan’s relations with the international community.
The government of Australia on Tuesday decided to temporarily close its embassy to Afghanistan due to security reasons.
The embassy is set to be closed on Friday, May 28.
Following that, the Afghan government said it respects Australia’s decision to shut Kabul embassy, hoping for the country’s review of its decision, according to a foreign ministry’s statement.
