“Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu discussed the importance of cooperation between the United States and Turkey, including our shared interests in Syria and Afghanistan,” a U.S. State Department’s statement read.
Elsewhere, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad met with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, and exchanged views on developments in the Afghan peace process.
The Indonesian senior official underlined her country’s commitment to support the peace process.
It comes as Turkey is set to host a U.S.-backed conference on Afghanistan’s peace process.
The conference was set for April 24 but postponed to after Ramadan—Muslims holy month and the Eid-ul Fitr that follows.
It was postponed as reports said the Taliban refused to participate in the summit.
