According to a spokesman for Thunder army corps, at least nine Taliban fighters were killed and a dozen more wounded in overnight clashes with Afghan forces in the district.
A number of the insurgents’ weapons were also destroyed, said the spokesman, Aimal Khan Momand.
There was no comment from the Taliban.
It comes a day after a western district in the province fell to Taliban.
Security officials have yet to confirm, but a Taliban spokesman took to Twitter confirming capture of the district.
Heavy fighting, inflicting casualties to both sides, resumed following an Eid ceasefire.
