Earlier this week, May 9, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani declared Tuesday as national day of mourning to honor the victims of recent deadly attacks in west of Kabul and earlier in Logar’s provincial capital of Pul-e Alam.
The European Union mission in Afghanistan today announced it lowers the flag in solidarity with the war-weary nation and to remember the victims of the recent “brutal” attacks in the country.
“Today, we lower our flag in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan,” it tweeted. “In remembrance of the victims of the brutal attacks in Dasht-I-Barchi, Pul-e-Alam & all who have fallen victim to senseless violence all over [Afghanistan].
The mission said it “stands with the people of in the pursuit of peace.”
Deadly attacks near a girls’ school in west of Kabul city killed more than 50 and wounded dozens more.
Likewise on April, a car bomb attack which targeted a guesthouse in Afghanistan’s central Logar province, claimed as many as 30, with students among the dead.
There were no claims of responsibility for these attacks.
