A car bomb attack on Friday evening killed 21 people and injured 90 others in Pul-e-Alam city, the provincial capital of Logar province, said Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.
The dead and wounded included women, children and students who came to the capital for university entrance exam.
The guesthouse, nearby houses, and the provincial hospital had collapsed in the bombing.
Afghan leaders condemned the attack, calling it crime against humanity.
Government officials blamed the Taliban for attack, but there was no immediate comment from the insurgent group.
There was no claim of responsibility.
The bombing came just on the eve of May 1 deadline for foreign troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Under a troop withdrawal agreement struck between the United States and the Taliban on February last year, foreign forces were committed to leave Afghanistan by early May.
The United States and the NATO on April 29 began withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan, according to reports, following U.S. President Joe Biden’s announcement earlier this month to bring troops back to their home.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Joe Biden said the U.S. withdrawal would be completed by September 11 which coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America that sparked its military involvement in Afghanistan.
